The calendar year of 2024 was filled with new experiences, drama, technological breakthroughs, and meaningful relationships. For BluntDAO, it was a year of growth, self-discovery, and building upon our diverse and widespread community. Some of us celebrated big wins, while others faced challenges—but through it all, we stayed connected and supported one another.
The year began with our Near family in the Rockies of Colorado for ETHDenver. Denver holds a special place in our hearts, offering great buds, chill vibes, and stunning mountain views to offset the hustle of hackathon and conference season. As always, BluntDAO brought the vibes with a potluck featuring dishes from President Apollo, music, and plenty of blunts. This event also marked the birth of a major idea: our own Nounish NFT collection on 4/20 through blunts.wtf. It laid the groundwork for an exciting year ahead- shout out to PotLock!
Our Touch Grass series kicked off with an event at FarCON in Los Angeles, where we partnered with community member Proof of Vibes. Summer began with one of our largest gatherings of the year, where we handed out over 100 blunts and more than 150 joints. This was followed by our first annual rolling competition in Austin, Texas during Consensus. The event onboarded 120 Web3 natives and even some Web2 folks. In Dallas, we sponsored a fashion show at WolfPack Fest, supporting the arts because, as we know, every good creative session starts with a blunt!
From the Texas heat, we ventured to Brussels, where the adventure continued. What makes BluntDAO unique is the grassroots support and contributions from our community. Despite language barriers in Brussels, we bonded with locals through a universal language: blunts. At ETHCC, we collaborated with Black Dragon and WaffleDAO, embracing scattered showers with a joint rolling competition in the park and warm waffles at a coworking space. Also got schooled on a French roll vs. a Dutch roll. A special moment came when one of BluntDAO’s original members rolled their first blunt in over a year. Whether the gathering is large or small, BluntDAO brings the vibes.
Proof of Sesh headed to Tennessee for BTC Nashville for a Blunts and Brunch combined with the Tiny Vikings! We also onboarded Ivy League students during Stanford Blockchain Week in New York, keeping the DAO’s spirit alive with the next generation. This year also marked our first crypto and cannabis hangout with vrbs in San Antonio. Hosted monthly, it became a unique space to combine Web3 and cannabis culture. A big shoutout to Wen.aidrop and Jpsychadelic for organizing and leading these events, which have quickly become a staple of our community!
As summer ended, we headed to ETHSF, where we partnered with Black Dragon again, hosting a joint giveaway at the 13 Hours AI vs. Artists showcase. There were vibes and all mediums of art like live music, painting, coding, and more! We love providing spaces for blunts to get smoked and also for discussions about the future of the open web to occur, naturally :)
From California’s coast, we moved to the mountains of Chiang Mai, Thailand, for the Blunt Olympic Trials at the Blunt Olympic Village. Shout out to our BluntDAO Brazil trainee who won the Tap Out competition (smoking nonstop until someone taps out). Our journey in Thailand also included immersive experiences at ETH pop-up villages like Suci Blockchain Club, The MU, and Zuzalu. For those wanting to participate in the next BluntOlympic Village Hacker House, tap in! Huge thanks to BluntDAO India, Brazil, and Vietnam for their contributions during our time there, and to ViaLabs for creating the Blunt Olympics Dashboard App. We capped off the year with the inaugural Blunt Olympics at DevCon, our largest event with over 440 attendees. Highlights included a rolling competition, a DIY bong contest, and, of course, Tap Out. Thank you $RAPR and Zachcakes for supporting the project with vibes and copping some bud. Over a kilo of blunts were smoked, staying true to our motto: “We make sure blunts get smoked.” We also debuted new merch, including the legendary vests created by RU$$ @ Proof of Vibes.
We ended our time in Thailand by honoring our late and great member Izzy with a memorial smoke session on the last day of ETHCC. It was a moment of reflection and camaraderie, paying tribute to a real one. Shout out to $SKG88 for sponsoring at such late notice!
BluntDAO wants to be the incubator for all “highdeas,” creating safe spaces for smokers while fostering the relaxed energy that comes with in real life meetups. Whether it’s a gathering of 100 stoners, a few friends sharing a blunt, or a hacker house grinding to finish a project, BluntDAO is there in spirit. Always adding just the right amount of vibes.
